About Us
Your Local Friendly Gardening Club – Growing Gardens and Friendships
Our story
A Century of Gardening in Biggin Hill
The Biggin Hill and District Horticultural Society has been part of local life for over a hundred years. Through changing seasons and changing times, we've brought together people who share a passion for plants, growing, and the great outdoors — and we're still going strong.
What started as a small gathering of enthusiastic local gardeners has grown into a vibrant, welcoming community. We hold regular evening meetings, annual shows, a popular seed swap, and much more — all rooted in the simple belief that gardening is better when it's shared.
Whether you're a seasoned grower with a prize-winning vegetable patch, a beginner who's just discovered the joy of a windowsill herb garden, or simply someone who loves being outdoors — there's a place for you here.
What we do
Something for Every Gardener
We get together throughout the year for events that are as sociable as they are green-fingered. Here's a flavour of what we get up to:
Monthly Evening Meetings
Held on the third Wednesday of each month, from March through November. Guest speakers, demonstrations, and plenty of good chat.
Annual Shows
A highlight of the horticultural calendar — bring along your best blooms, vegetables, and produce to show off to fellow members.
Seed Swap
One of our most popular events. Bring seeds to share, take home something new, and discover varieties you'd never have thought to grow.
Yearbook & Show Schedule
Each year we produce a members' yearbook and show schedule — your guide to everything happening across the season.

Membership is just £10 per household per year — and it comes with a lot. Eight talks, three flower shows, a plant sale, free entry trips to RHS gardens, the yearbook, and most importantly, a warm welcome into a community of fellow gardeners.
Not ready to commit yet? You're welcome to come along to our evening meetings, shows, and events such as the seed swap as a non-member — just turn up and say hello.
